Personality & Traits

General Overview Elias has the discipline and dedication typical of most Starfleet officers. He takes his job seriously. But he's also the type who can find the humor in any situation, always ready with a joke. For those who know him he's also a loyal and steady friend. He speaks with a slight Spanish accent.
Strengths & Weaknesses He's technically adept and loves to figure out complex challenges, particularly as part of a team. He's a reliable guy to have around in almost any situation. He doesn't complain and contributes positively.

On the other hand, sometimes he works himself so hard that he forgets to relax. When the stress piles on he will drive himself to near exhaustion. It usually takes a stern word from a superior to pry him away from his duties.
Ambitions Elias wants to do the best job he can, right here and now. That's his immediate goal. For long range goals he would like to be on the design team for Starfleet's next generation of ships, and possibly command one of his own someday.
Hobbies & Interests He enjoys long-distance running, scuba diving, and competitive shooting. He has also been writing a book about the history of the Spanish conquest of the New World, but it's been languishing lately. The topic requires intensive research and he just can't find the time for it.

Personal History Elias was born in Santiago, Chile to parents who were both design engineers on the Pacific Basin Habitat Project, an underwater city that was several years in the making. He spent his childhood years alternating between living in the old city of Santiago and the new, un-named one being pieced together deep beneath the sea. (It would eventually become the city of Point Nemo).

It was a happy upbringing, but unlike his parents, who had a love of the ocean, Elias yearned for the stars. There were many ways to live and work there, of course, but it was Starfleet that captured his imagination. At age 14 he began to look into joining the service.

A co-worker of his parents, Gustav Eriksen, who was former Starfleet himself, heard about going Elias's interest. He took it upon himself to give Elias guidance and encouraged him to apply to Starfleet Academy. Elias was accepted for admission shortly after his 18th birthday.

At the Academy Elias studied Spaceframe Architecture and Engineering. His marks were generally good. He graduated 47th in a class of 301. He was also well-liked and had several close friends. In his senior year he attended command school. His instructors complimented his leadership style as "appropriately confident," "thoughtful," and "ca!culated."

Upon graduation as a newly minted Ensign, Elias reported to his first assignment on the USS Phaeton.
Starfleet History Elias started as a flight control officer on the Phaeton, a Legacy-class starship under the command of Captain Alandra Torun. As most new kids do, he had to take the overnight watch. It wasn't so bad since almost everyone else on duty at that hour was also an ensign with shiny new pips. As a result he reconnected with some Academy shipmates.

After 13 months of that, Elias had logged enough experience to ask for transfer to another shift where more people were awake. He did that, and also asked to transfer to Ops or Engineering, to pursue interests closer to his heart.

The ship's First Officer, in his wisdom, put him at Tactical. Again on the night shift.

Elias was disappointed but didn't let it show. He put on his new gold uniform and went to work. It turned out to be great experience for him. The ship's Security Chief taught him all about the Phaeton's weapons systems, as well as some useful pointers in hand-to-hand combat. He even had the opportunity to tag along on a few away missions.

The next assignment was shore duty close to home. Elias was ordered to Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards on Mars. This was the break he had been waiting for. Elias was placed on one of the many construction teams whose job it was to build and test Starfleet's ships. He took to it like a fish to water. His duties allowed him to get down into the nuts and bolts of several classes of starships, including Nebula, Galaxy, Intrepid, Insignia, Sovereign, Akira, Steamrunner, and Vesta.

Elias counts his time in the Fleet Yards as the best of his career. So far, at least. He was doing work that he loved, and when he wasnt, he had his own apartment in nearby Bradbury City and was able to see his family often. But all good things come to an end, and Elias received new orders to report to Meridius Colony.

Meridius Colony, established only thirty years ago, was considered a strategic asset to Starfleet because of its asteroid mining operations, which yielded over 100,000 metric tons of dilithium ore anually. The colonists numbered around 20,000 including families. To safeguard this operation Starfleet had a permanently assigned detachment of around 475 personnel there. The detachment commander was a typically logical Vulcan named T'Jal.

Searching for a Chief of Operations for her detachment, Commander T'Jal came across Elias's service record and found him appropriate to her needs. His experience in multiple departments made him a good fit. Because the Meridius detachment was so small, personnel frequently wore multiple hats. She put in the request with Starfleet Command and had new orders generated for him.

Elias was again disappointed. He had a good thing going on at Utopia Planitia. But the needs of the service came first. So he packed up and reported to Meridius.

The assignment turned out to be mostly boring. Sure, Elias finally had the Ops Chief assignment he had always wanted, but other than the occasional pirate trying to steal a shipment of dilithium, there wasn't much going on. Meridius was a faraway, desolate planet. No one was much interested in it. Elias performed his duties with good cheer and a positive attitude, but he kept his ear to the ground for something better.

When Elias heard about the ambitious plans for Canopus Station, he jumped on it.
