Physical Description Gerrin has an athletic build and is fit; though nothing over the top muscularly. He attributes it not to a strict workout regimen, but to working in the construction business for a couple decades. That and sports. His two favorites are Velocity and Parrises Squares. He's average height with dark brown eyes, black hair, and an occasional scruffy beard. Gerrin has been, and still is, accused of doctoring his eyes so they look shadowy and dark. His response is always that he does not doctor his eyes and that he was born that way. “I could see why some people would think I do that because my eyelashes are dark. Especially the bottom row, they’re pretty dark. I’ve been dealing with it since I was a little kid, and so to me it’s very funny when it comes up.”

Personality & Traits

General Overview Gerrin is full of vitality and a sense of individuality. He's a determined “young” man that throws himself into whatever he does with intensity. He possesses a driving force that makes him focus on his own mission. He isn't afraid of getting his hands or body dirty. The darker side of life intrigues him, and he's always ready to investigate it. This has gotten Gerrin into trouble more than once. This curiosity has also aided him in understanding certain elements. He deals with unknown situations well. He is very flexible and isn't opposed to change. Gerrin doesn't necessarily welcome it with open arms, but he isn't opposed. Enter that investigative nature.

Social relationships were extremely high on Gerrin's list of priorities until his second year at the Academy. If you knew him prior to the Academy, you'd have seen an importance placed on popularity, vanity, and narcissism. To say that Gerrin has completely left these personality aspects behind or buried them would be ridiculous. They simply do not occupy a prominent place in his life as they once did. But they are still there and still make up part of who he is.

Ambitions His primary motivation isn't prestige or authority. It isn't even to be the stereotypical El Aurian. He desires to live, to experience life. At this juncture, that is Starfleet.

Personal History Gerrin was born in Amsterdam, Earth. The family lived in the region for almost thirty years before they moved to San Francisco and settled down. He grew up in Starfleet's backyard and eventually grew fond of them, the Fleeters. His father bought a construction business which was occasionally contracted by the Starfleet Corp of Engineers. While working for his father on those jobs, Gerrin made friends with several of the enlisted engineers. He would meet them after their duty hours in the evenings and hang out with them in their favorite locations around San Fran. Needless to say, they all got into some kind of trouble quite a bit. Those guys got transferred a year later. Gerrin began to break the listener-counselor stereotype of El Aurians at this time in his life. His parents chalked up to the 'toddler' years and planned for what they expected to be crazy 'teenage' rebellious years.

At the age of thirty-six, Gerrin and his dad took a contract to renovate and update some dorms at Starfleet Academy. He once again made some friends; though this time it was with the cadets. The young man worked as hard at renovations as he did at having fun with the cadets that year. He can still take you to the rooms he renovated and point out where he had lots of fun. Though, those rooms have long since been redone.

Fast-forward to one month before his eighty-third birthday when he informed his parents that he wanted to join Starfleet. Mom was proud and happy, but dad was on the fence about the whole thing. His long-term plan had been to have his son take over the business and hopefully take care of the rebellious streak. In fact, he'd begun training him during the last year and a half so that he could make him an official foreman. Dad relented after two weeks, supposing this to be a better opportunity for his son...in more ways than one. His hopes eventually became truth.
Starfleet History Four years and a Cadet cruise later, Ensign Gerrin Ragnar Rhonin, GRR to his friends, graduated the Academy. He was actually looking forward to getting to a permanent assignment so he could put into practice his Security-Tactical major and Com-Ops minor. As a note, he was by far not the greatest student the Academy had seen. On his record were remarks such as “has potential for more growth” and “non-compliant tendencies.” There were also a few instances where he used his security training to hack into places he wasn't supposed to be; Red Squad's training simulators, a professor's private stash of booze, and the girl's Velocity team locker room. Those events occurred during his first year, which resulted in a visit to the Commandant's office and a threat of being kicked out. That's when the eighty-four year old El Aurian realized that it was time to grow up and leave the teenage years behind. The comments, however, remained on his permanent record.

Gerrin settled down and tried to redeem his not-so-good grades. He studied harder for his classes and his job during his second year. He managed to salvage his academics and practical training by the time graduation came around. It was, then, getting close to the time to cut orders for the Cadets when the top brass found the perfect spot for him, that Starbase on the outskirts of the Alpha Quadrant. Far away from the Sol System.

Gerrin was assigned as Brig Officer at Starbase Zulu. He didn't quite enjoy his first duty station and saw it for what it was meant to be for him, a career stopper. His security chief, however, saw a young El Aurian that needed mentoring. Lieutenant Vukkek of Vulcan took him under his tutelage. Gerrin didn't adopt the Vulcan beliefs or training, but he did learn a lot from the man. A lot about himself, security in general, justice, and logic. But most importantly to him, he learned that there would be times when he had to say what needed to be said regardless of the outcome. Watching a Vulcan use harsh language...there's nothing like it. He could make you feel repentant for what you've done and apologize for what didn't you didn't do. Gerrin spent four years assigned to that station before receiving transfer orders to the USS Agamemnon.

Gerrin did well on the Agamemnon. He incorporated the things he'd learned from Vukkek and added his own personal twist to them. He worked his way up from Brig Officer to regular Security Officer. From there, he garnered the attention of some people and was quickly transferred to a Century class ship two years later. This ship was part of the 4th M4 Expedition. An expedition to the Messier 4 galaxy wasn't anywhere on his sensors, but his orders were specific...Canopus Station.
