Personality & Traits
General Overview | Fender is an experienced NCO and knows how to get things done, yet he still has a boyish attitude about him. He walks the line between the responsible authority figure and his mischievous side. He is aware enough to know when to remain serious and when it levity is in order.
Strengths & Weaknesses | McCord is in very good physical shape and knows how to handle weapons. He can also inspire confidence in others when he needs to. Despite his lack of respect for formal authority, he does stay up to date on tactics. Fender can act impulsively when he isn't on duty. He still likes a good time and sometimes he takes things too far. |
|
Ambitions | Fender has no real career options outside Starfleet. He is stuck in the marines and he knows it. He has also damaged his own service career by his actions. He wants to at least stay in Starfleet until he receives a retirement.
Hobbies & Interests | Gambling, drinking, and smoking are activities Fender likes to indulge in. They both keep him sane and lead him into more trouble. |
Personal History | Life on Omega Draconis is cheap and brutal. The failed industrial colony is run more by local gangs and militias than by any Federation authority. You either run the gang, run with the gang, or are run over by the gang. It is into this turbulence that Philibert ‘Fender’ McCord is born. Fender’s father, ‘Burner’, ran with one of the gangs, the Eye Gougers. Burner had a reputation as a fierce and unforgiving streetfighter. He earned his sobriquet from his use of a modified phaser that would light victims on fire. Burner made plenty of enemies. When Fender was three years old, Burner’s deeds finally caught up to him and he was killed. Burner’s widow and orphaned son were treated well by the Gougers and provided them a small stipend. There were some people that wanted to hold Fender and his mother accountable for what Burner did. Several times phasers and disrupters were fired into their apartment. Fender was beaten up by children of rival gang members. Fender had to learn how to use his fists before he could write. When Fender was twelve years old things got worse. The Eye Gougers were defeated and destroyed in a bloody gang war. All the gougers were either killed or fled the colony. The little money Fender and his mother received was gone. Fender’s mother resorted to prostitution to survive. Fender helped another gang run narcotics. Fender earned his nom de guerre when he was fourteen. A half breed Klingon seventeen-year-old member of a rival gang, Trasher, was intercepting mules from rival gangs. When Fender was crossing a boneyard of derelict hover vehicles, he came into the cross hairs of Trasher. Trasher blocked Fender’s line of travel and wielding a menacing looking Mek’leth, demanded Fender’s parcel. Unarmed, Fender looked around for something to defend himself with. He quickly grabbed a loose bumper from a rusted hoover craft. Despite Trasher slicing up Fender, the youth managed to beat the half Klingon into unconsciousness. Fender earned a reputation, and no one ever interfered with Fender’s runs after that. Despite his newfound respect, Fender had no taste for gang life. Despite the constant civil infighting, merchant ships would still arrive at Omega Draconis. At fifteen, Fender used his meager savings to buy passage off world. For the next two years Fender earned his way in the world doing menial labor for unscrupulous merchants. When he was old enough, he enlisted in Starfleet. |

Starfleet History | The ex-ganger found his way into the Starfleet Marines. Discipline did not come easy for Fender. Many a time he thought about leaving the marines. Knowing that you have food, pay, and a place to sleep was too hard to give up. Besides, Fender had no where to go.
