Pysical - Ricci (working title)

Posted on Tue Apr 2nd, 2019 @ 3:15pm by Lieutenant Commander Mara Ricci

Mission: S0E0: What Came Before
Location: Sick Bay
Timeline: Backpost- shortly after the jump

If Mara had been impressed with the size of Sick Bay when she walked in, she hadn't shown it. But, it was huge and state-of-the-art to boot. Of course, she hadn't expected anything else; the whole station was like that. Even her own quarters had every amenity one could want, including a small, but full kitchen. Why should Sick Bay be any different?

She had informed a nurse that she was here for her scheduled physical- something that was required for everyone after the long jump- and had been shown to a biobed. Now, she waited for the doctor while she examined all the nearby equipment, mentally taking it apart and cataloging all the parts.

Emerging from the office in the corner of sickbay, the CMO, a Trill male wearing a standard uniform with a white overcoat approached the woman, "Hello Commander. Glad you could make it in. Doctor Vereyn Kiiz." He extended his hand.

“Of course,” she replied with a polite smile. “Physicals are important- especially after a long jump.” Which was only true because the long jump was so new, but far be it from Mara to make excuses to shirk what many saw as a really pointless exercise.

"Yes fortunately for us, very few cases of Capsule Syndrome." He pulled out a tricorder and started to scan her, "Have you had any symptoms that I should know about?"

“No,” replied Mara. “Other than general fatigue, but that is probably down to long hours since we arrived. Putting a station together is a lot of work.” Not to mention, of course, that she’d had to retrieve a bit of it from an unstable orbit.

Nodded, Vereyn read through the readings, "I hear you. Without main sickbay and most of my staff, we are having to make due with what we have." He closed the tricorder, "If you would like I can give you a stimulant to help with the fatigue, but best would be to just get some good sleep. Coffee or raktajino works too."

“Thanks, but I should be able to get a normal nights’ sleep now,” she replied. “I might be the chief, but I’ve got the best engineers on my team. If they can’t handle it, I doubt I’ll be much help.”

"Always a good thing to have a good team." Vereyn said as he transferred his scans to a computer and started to analyze them. He compared them to her last physical that she had. "So how long until we get the other half back?" The Trill doctor asked as he scrolled through the layout.

"Do you mean the station or the engineers?" she asked. "Never mind. Everything is here; it's just a matter of joining it all up again."

Vereyn starts rubbing his chin, and hmmms to himself, "Yes..." He says absent mindedly. Walking back to the biobed he looks at her, "Can I see behind your left hear?" He asked her as he stepped to her left side.

Mara blinked several times. "Odd, but... okay," she said, turning her head slightly. "It's a bit itchy there."

Vereyn looked and nodded, "Just what I thought. Ringworm. Not horrible, but irritating. Easy enough to treat." Grabbing a hypodpray and changed the cartridge and pressed it to her neck, injecting her with it. "Will need a series of three of these injections over the next week. I will be seeing you the day after tomorrow and the day after the day after that." He paused and used his finger to count the days, "Yeah, something like that. You get the idea." The Trill man smiled, "Other than that, you are healthy, and fit for duty."

"W- what?" sputtered Mara indignantly. "I do not have r-" She cut herself off and glanced around. "I do not have ringworm!" she hissed. "Where would I even get that?"

"Simple human to human contact, or you simply contracted it before coming, and just didn't realize it." Vereyn said as he punched into the system. He scanned her again, "It's a fungal infection, nothing that can't be cured." He hands her a PADD, "See for yourself."

She snatched the PADD from his hands and looked it over, scowling. With a grunt, she shoved it back into his hands. "If Spires did this, I'll murder him!" she muttered angrily as she hopped off the biobed and stormed out of Sick Bay. Ringworm, indeed! How very undignified!
