Who We Are

Posted on Sun Mar 10th, 2019 @ 1:29am by Lieutenant JG Teeran Shard

Mission: S1E2: A Temple To New Gods
Location: Command Module, Intelligence Hub
Timeline: MD3 18:15PM

To say she was overloaded with information, was putting it mildly. Dania needed time to process all the information gathered, and to put into some semblance of a record.

For that she needed someone who's been around for a while, whom she could bounce thoughts off of and count on their discretion. Well, she knew of Shard's reputation in Starfleet and she knew of the man's record. She'd hand picked him to join her team in this excursion. But she hadn't really worked with this version of Shard.

She found the blonde, spotted man in their newly commandeered intelligence hub as she walked in, PADD in hand.

Serene blue eyes looked up as the norwegian walked in. "I see many things on your face, both good and bad." He spoke with a standard Federation accent.

"Is that your way of asking me if I'm alright, Shard?" Dania asked with a small smile.

"No. Just noticing that things have happened. I can tell that you're not quite alright, Storm." He said with a smile to match. "You can hide your expression from others well, but I've been around the block for longer than any of them, and been through all of the emotions on your face. I'm also kind of extra trained to notice these things, as well." He added with a bit more of a cheerful grin as he stood up. "So, coffee or akvavit?"

Dania blinked for a moment as he spoke so casually, as if it was completely normal to be unravelled like so in a completely casual conversation.

She stepped over to the central display table, and placed the PADD on it. "I'll go with irish coffee for now. It's not an akvavit situation yet."

The trill nodded as he went over to the replicator and ordered a coffee. As it materialized he leaned down and reached into a side compartment, pulling out a bottle of red-amber liquid. He opened it and poured an amount into the materialized cup of coffe and swirled it gently before handing the cup over to Dania.

"So, is the air gap set?" Dania asked as she took the cup from him and took a sip.

Shard nodded as he put the cap on the bottle and put it back in the compartment. "We are rotating personnel on a four hour basis, that way we have optimal focus on transfers."

Dania nodded, wincing a little as the liquid burned down her throat. It felt good though. It felt familiar. So far so little had felt familiar and Dania had found herself waddling through very turboulent, at times hot, at times cold waters. The Xilosians, the Concordance, the fact that some of their own people had gotten infected too, and had caused harm to an already damaged, wary race. If she was honest with herself, they were extremely lucky that her team hadn't been blasted to bits by Kle when they were down on the planet.

Storm understood the Formation Leader's concerns and wariness. She could sympathise with all that had happened to them.

"You want to run me through what happened? Perhaps I can help shed some light on any of those question marks I see over your head?" Teeran asked with a smile as he observed Dania.

Dania took another long sip, sighed and began relating to him the events since she left the Command Module with the shuttle team.

Sometime later...

"I see your concern." Shard said finally, as he leaned next to her, arms crossed on his chest. "We need to talk to the Marines and we need to talk to Ops, see about getting a look in on that energy signature the Xilosians detected. It could be another victim of this Concordance, or they could be their ally."

Dania nodded, "which means we need to be really careful. Keep the Concordance to ourselves for now. Have a brief intel jacket on them prepared to be 'gapped', we won't send data out just yet, till we know more."

"Should we even 'gap' anything regarding the Xilosians yet? Do you think that would tip our hand, if anyone's monitoring our exiting comms?" Shard asked, blue eyes observing her.

Dania shook her head, "we've been hanging around long enough to get noticed, so if anyone's watching, they know that we know about them. So their data can be sent out, what little we know. Save for the blip. I want to know more first."

Teeran nodded. "Alright, I'll prepare the docket to be sent."

"Anything from home yet?" Dania looked over at Teeran.

The trill shook his head. "Not yet."

The norwegian took a long sip and sighed. "We'll have to make sure we keep to the spirit of Starfleet, the Federation and Intelligence more than ever now, Shard. So much is new, unknown and dangerous here, including our own people now. Whilst yes, we need to adjust and modify how we do things...we can't lose sight of who we are, where come from and what we represent."

"Unity." Shard said by way of understanding and nodded.
